A Fresh Start

It's time to shed winter with a fresh start and new passions. A fresh attitude around food and eating does wonders! Let go of diets. Instead, please your senses and make personal priorities your choice. Spring is a pleasure. Relax, smell the new season and give yourself a chance to feel it!
Sensual Pleasures include:
Taste * Smell * Texture * Relaxation * Comfort * Satisfaction * Peace of Mind *
Pleasure touches and refreshes every part of our lives. We know this because when it's missing, we feel lousy.  Use intuition to lose weight by eating for physical satisfaction and pleasure. The passion will follow.
Follow these intuitive guidelines for  a fresh start.
P = priorities. Make eating priorities personal, uniquely suited to your needs and physical goals. The first priority is to trust your gut.

L = lifestyle. Lifestyle dictates eating choices. You choose how much you want to eat. Be flexible because change happens all the time. Don't eat when you're preoccupied or stressed.

E = enjoy. Studies have shown when we really enjoy what we eat, our digestion is 70% more efficient. Enjoyment also reduces stress. If you are not enjoying your food, don't eat.

A = attitude of awareness. Tune in with your 5 senses to stay in tune with your body. When it comes to eating, our body is the source of our pleasure. Eat for energy, strength and good health. The rest of your day will be in sync.

S = sensual. We are sensual beings. Don't ignore it. When we satisfy ourselves sensually at mealtime, we feel comfortably full, but not stuffed. We feel good. Sensual eating includes letting your eyes feast on those you love or letting your ears listen to music that uplifts your spirit. Every part of what makes you, you, is important.

U = understanding. Kindness is allowing yourself to enjoy what you want in a way that respects your priorities. There is nothing forbidden or restricted. There is only common sense. Common sense is to protect our heart, body and soul. Wrong choices feel heavy. Common sense choices literally lighten us. Managing weight with common sense is perfect for Spring.

R = realistic. We all have unique metabolism and genetic body shapes. Be yourself and give yourself a hug. What's realistic is what works for your body. You can feel it, and ultimately you can see it. What you eat is just about you.

E = enthusiasm. It's a sparkle in your step and in your smile that makes you attractive. Enthusiasm is the beginning of passion and passion is what a Springtime fresh start brings. Tune-in to pleasure at mealtime and discover that you eat less because you're enjoying yourself more.

Albert Einstein famously said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If you diet, re-read that quote. 95% of people who diet gain back more weight than they lose! Diets are deprivation. Spring and intuitive eating are about pleasure. Enjoy the season!

Stop choking and lose weight!

"A man begins cutting his wisdom teeth the first time he bites off more than he can chew." Herb Caen

We are supposed to learn from experience. Biting off more than you can chew means gaining weight, choking or feeling bloated after you eat.

Wisdom is slimming because it lightens life's burdens. This means when you take control of  eating by noticing how much food you're putting in your mouth, you will lose weight. It's easy to be wise.

Common sense is intuitive. Don't bite off more than you can chew. Use taste to enjoy what you put into your mouth. Talk about the pleasure of it. Pleasure of taste and texture is much sexier than calorie count for dinner conversation.

So what's stopping you? Old habits. Habits are like old age. They creep up and bend us out of shape and dull our minds. A habit that chokes is a monkey on your back. Shake it off.

The habit of focusing on negative thoughts about eating during mealtime will actually cause you to gain weight! Instead, eat sensually:
  • Look at the colors on your plate. If they are not appetizing, don't eat it.
  • Smell the food on your fork before it enters your mouth. Does the smell make your mouth water? Your mouth is the beginning of eating.
  • Talk more. Feed your emotions and your mind by being social at meal time. Time is all we have. Don't ignore opportunities to feed your soul as well as your body.
You will stop choking on your food and choking on your life by taking smaller bites and noticing what you're putting into your body. Losing weight is easy when you stop the diet habit and use common sense to be wise.

Bite off exactly what you can chew and focus on personal satisfaction. Don't let habits choke you! Be wise for yourself and lose weight.

You're too young to be a victim of habit. Plus, the victim mentality is so yesterday.
You're never old enough to give up on yourself.

The Inner Game of Eating

Imagine eating what you want, knowing when you're hungry and feeling happy with your body and yourself. It's all part of the inner game of eating self-control. The inner game keeps your head in tune with your gut feelings and your body with simple intuitive tools.
  • Our head is the hard drive where we store experience and where our values connect.
  • Our gut feeling is the connection that protects us by staying clear about what we sense and long term priorities.
  • Our body is the source of energy, health and pleasure. Naturally, we want to tune in to that!
Intuition is having an open mind and a flexible attitude. Sitting down to eat without a plan is having an open mind. This arms you with an awareness that you drives you to feel curious about choices. Part of the inner game of eating is realizing that there is always an option.

Having a flexible attitude gives perspective. For example, If I eat this whole pizza, will I like what it does to my body?, If I slam this sandwich down my throat without even tasting it, will I feel satisfied?  The inner game of eating keeps us in charge of what we do.
  • Perspective is how you know yourself.
  • It allows you to get out of your own way to see where you're going.

The inner game of eating includes checking in with your body with all 5 senses before you put food in your mouth. Doing that is your intuitive way of showing self-respect. Our senses give us an intimate reality check. What's real is not a plan or a number on a scale.  What's real when it comes to the inner game is how you feel, what you sense and personal priorities.
Listening to your 6th sense teaches you about yourself. The better you know yourself, the easier it is to be good to yourself by maintaining eating self-control. It's surprisingly natural to get through the maze of eating challenges and diet stress to discover satisfaction with yourself by knowing the inner game of eating self-control.  Intuitive tools include:
  • curiosity: is noticing what you notice with your senses and your mind
  • prudence: reminds that we always have options and the ability to choose what feels best
  • foresight: is thinking about the results of our choices, first, so there are no regrets.
The inner game of eating connects with what we value long-term in our life. You can stay clear about what gives you satisfaction and away from what fills you with regret. It feels like common sense.

Self-control begins by recognizing what pushes our buttons. When we master this, self-control becomes a natural focus that empowers all of our choices. Download Am I Really Hungry? 6th sense diet: Intuitive Eating, and learn how to recognize what you really want. It's the natural way play the inner game.

On Thursday, March1st at 1PM EST, I will be doing a teleseminar about how to re-invent personal dieting by connecting with your inner game of eating self-control with Holistic Nutrition Coach, Nancy Desjardins. Registration is free. Sign up and get some answers! See you there.

Intuitive Magic

A gourmet who thinks of calories is like a tart who looks at her watch. ~George Bernard Shaw

Curiosity is intuitive. It's something you feel, not something you think. The more curious you are, the more satisfaction you will discover with yourself and in your world.

Working to live intuitively is going to change the way you eat and feel. Trusting your intuition is being true to yourself. It's respecting your body, listening to your heart and not letting your head be bulldozed into someone else's thinking pattern.

Eating is about pleasuring your body - not in a lewd or sexual way, but in a way that fills you with the excitement of living. A satisfied body feels vibrant and alive. Real satisfaction around eating is nearly sacred. That's why there are so many rituals around food and eating.

When you diet, you develop damaging rituals around eating. These lead to binging and purging. They  create a mind-set of defeat. It's subtle until you realize you've gained 20 pounds or worse. Stop eating to fit in a mindset and start eating to fit in your own mind and body!

There is a simple ritual around eating that's intuitive magic. It opens your eyes and your heart. Doing it feels like common sense. The intuitive ritual around eating that I urge you to use is the ritual of Gratitude - before, during and after you eat. It will change everything.

Right now, stop looking at your watch and start looking at what you're doing. If you're offered a serving that's huge, there's no pleasure in packing food in as if you're a box to fill.
  • Instead, savor the flavors.
  • Take a deep breath between bites and allow your body the space it naturally needs to relax and let the digestive juices flow.
  • Pamper your inner health so that you can depend on it later.
Don't think of calories; think of the pleasures of great health. Don't look at the clock; be in the moment. Tune in to the magic. Bon Appetite!

Intuitive magic is easy to tune into with a little bit of help!  Download Am I Really Hungry? 6th sense diet: Intuitive Eating for helpful insights and practical tips that connect with feeling good about yourself and how you eat. When we connect with intuitive magic, every decision becomes easier.

When self-discipline fails.. PHAT

We all have those moments when the effort to put on the brakes is too much. Here's the intuitive way to fulfill your inner baby and protect your real-time body:

Start easy.
Bypass the emotional hot buttons to connect with your body when frustrated with temptation by relying on the intuitive basics - your physical senses.
Pamper yourself by eating sensually.
Just use one sense: Taste.
  • Taste what tempts you and really savor it.
  • Make love to your food with your tongue.  Do it slowly.
  • Taste what you eat as if it's your last meal.
  • Search for pleasure and satisfaction

Intuitive eating is sensual and very seductive in a satisfying way.
It's when you zone into your body and what feels good with every bite.
There is nothing forbidden, but lots that's pretty, hot and tempting.
Enjoy eating, and enjoy yourself by tuning-in to what you taste.

Pamper yourself with pleasure and dignity. Be sensual and get satisfaction. As you use your intuition you gain a permanent weightless understanding of yourself and you lose weight.

For the past few weeks,  Am I Really Hungry? has been a best seller on amazon.com under health: mind and body and mind-body connection ! People are using the book to change their lives! Give yourself a gift!

Self-discipline is a handrail to grab to stay clear about where we want to get. But sometimes our goals are hard to reach. We're too tired, or our inner baby just wants to eat cake. That's when the only available transportation is a leap of faith.
  • Have faith that you deserve a body that is healthy and feels good.
  • Trust that it's worth the short-term frustration of ignoring your inner baby to have the long-term result of liking yourself.
  • Take the leap when you can't deal with self-discipline and you'll discover yourself smiling.

Get Sensual.

Intuitive eating includes being aware of sensations like hunger and fullness. It is intuitive to use your mind to notice how your body feels.

Recognize how your body feels by using your 5 senses: taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing.
Being sensual keeps you in touch with what matters.

Your 5 senses tune you in to your body and the intuitive tools guide you to re-connect with self control around eating.  (http://www.IntuEating.com)

How the senses work:
>The job of your senses is to give you pleasure and protection.
>When you use your senses, you are giving yourself every advantage they offer.
>When you take them for granted, you ignore them and miss opportunities to protect yourself from  over eating.

You will discover that using your eyes when you eat keeps you more tuned in to how much you're eating.  Being aware of tastes, textures, smells and at the same time of being aware of how your body feels keeps you clearer about eating choices. It's the natural mind/body connection of your intuition.

Be sensual. Changing from the habit of ignoring your senses to noticing what you notice will help you shed pounds. When you connect with your intuition, and use your 5 senses, you connect with your body.
Using your senses- sight, taste, touch, smell, hearing and your intuition
complete the mind/body connection you need to make choices that protect you and
keep you eating healthy.

As you use your senses, start trusting what you notice to make your eating choices.
You know what you want for yourself.
You have learned from experience portions that feel good to your body.

Connecting with your body when you eat is a way of respecting yourself. It's the way to give yourself the chance you deserve to be healthy and happy.

Intuitive eating is how to be clear about what's important for you. It is making eating choices that make sense and  feel good to you emotionally and physically. The only way to predict your future is to create it. By eating intuitively you create the body you want.

Connect with Pleasure

Eating is a way to connect with pleasure in your life. Of course you eat to survive, but the gifts of your senses also encourage and allow you to enjoy the tease of colors, sights, smells, textures, and tastes. That’s one reason why it’s nice to eat slowly and in an environment where you are physically comfortable. Why not enjoy the tease?

As you fine tune your five physical senses, taste, smell, touch, hearing, and sight, you are tuning in to your sixth sense, your intuition.
Your intuition gives you the distinct pleasure of knowing your self.

Connecting with your intuition happens naturally because, in fact, all of your senses are always working together. Being aware of this, keeps you clear about what matters to you when you eat. This is comforting and reassuring, and a form of being in control. Being in control means you are clear about what you are doing when you are eating. If you sit down to eat confused, or ignore what you are sensing, then misunderstanding happens, and the result is overeating, or eating for the wrong reasons, or eating what makes you feel physically or emotionally bad about yourself. This is the opposite of pleasure.

Do you know that expression: Wake up and smell the roses.”?  The point is that there are flowers blooming in your life all of the time- even while you’re asleep, or eating. The other point is that your nose enables you to enjoy their sweet scent. Have you ever walked in a room and smelled cookies baking, or someone’s perfume? Your sense a smell is a tool to use when you chose what to eat.

Each sense serves as a pleasure center.
Your eyes tantalize by revealing beauty and potential.
Your ears bring words and songs to encourage, lift and entertain.
Your sense of touch is the key some of your most tender and most erotic sensations.
Taste and smell work together as a constant source of satisfaction.
Your intuition pulls it altogether.

Trust and respect your senses. As you recognize your senses working in unison, you will receive the most satisfaction of your life. Satisfaction is the foundation of pleasure. When you sit down to eat, think of the pleasures in front of you.

Eat less, chew more, and let yourself enjoy the tease.
